Is the future of social games in your mobile browser?

Munich-based social game developer Itsmy has officially expanded its mobile gaming engine to be available on over 12,000 mobile web devices. If not for mobile browsers, this feat would be virtually impossible. But do social gamers want to play in their browser when apps, quite frankly, do it much better?

"In 2011 we will see an interesting battle: Apps vs. Browsers," Itsmy CEO Antonio Vince Stabyl said today in a press release. "I personally think 2011 will be the year of online gaming on mobile devices without downloading or updating anything. We have learned from our users that people don't care about technical requirements and they love to play games with their phone all day long."

According to Itsmy CTO Jukka Saarelainen, the future of social gaming on mobile devices is in "cross-any-platform." That's all well and good, but until the iPhone's browser can do what Zynga's FarmVille app (syncing issues aside) can do, while still connecting me to Facebook, consider us skeptical.

What do you think? Would you rather play your favorite social games while on the go through your browser or with a dedicated app? Is there a future in social games on mobile browsers?
