CityVille won't stop!
CityVille, for all intents and purposes, is the new ish on Facebook. It's been reported by AppData and VentureBeat that the game, after grabbing a massive 47.9 million monthly players in just 18 days, could easily soar high above FarmVille in days. Think about it: the game made mincemeat of FrontierVille's 30.9 million with ease. With the farming sim sitting at 56.3 million players after a significant drop from its peak of over 80 million players earlier this year, Zynga is apparently in competition with itself. Now that FarmVille is frighteningly close to being finally dethroned, we ask, "Could anyone else have done it but Zynga?"
Probably not.
While we've already explored what might have contributed to the insanely rapid growth of the city-growing sim, it's about time we ask another question: What could this mean for FrontierVille and FarmVille? First off, they won't be going anywhere soon. But they could very well become less profitable over time, with fewer items asking for paid currency and inversely more items that cost City Cash popping up in CityVille. We doubt Zynga's focus would shift too dramatically from game to game--heck, the company is still trying to get Warstorm off the ground--but anything is possible. Here's one last question: Can CityVille return Zynga to its former glory of raking in over 80 million souls players in a single game? Stay tuned to see if CityVille trumps the farm in time for Christmas.

St. Patrick's Day invades CityVille with new businesses, decorations, crops and more
If you thought the St. Patrick's Day quests in CityVille were something, just wait until you get a look at the absolutely slew of items that Zynga has released into the game as part of the St. Patrick's Day theme. There are new Businesses, Crops, Decorations, and even a new clothing option for your citizens to wear, all of which are available from the in-game store.
For the businesses, we see three new items being available. The St. Patty's Pub is available for 1800 coins, and requires 40 Goods as stock. It earns 188 coins by default. Next is the Fiddle Shop, which is available for 2400 coins, and requires 60 Goods, offering you 258 coins when you cash out its profits. Finally, the third business is the Shamrock Sing-A-Long (think a Karaoke club) that costs just 2100 coins to build. This business requires 90 Goods, but gives you more coins than the other two businesses, at 405 coins per cash-out.
If you'd like to get your citizens in on the fun of the holiday in addition to simply shopping at themed businesses, you can dress them in new Green Clothes for a one-time cost of 500 coins. This is similar to the winter clothing that was released as part of the winter/holiday event, and can be swapped out if you change your mind.
Meet us behind the break for the rest of these St. Patrick's Day goodies.
If you're in the mood for some new decorations to place around your new businesses, there are five items to choose from (not including the two larger decorations you'll receive as part of the St. Patrick's Day quests). These five items are the Clover Patch, Fiddle Player, Painting Booth, Funny Photos stand, and Bountiful Balloons salesman. You'll receive a bonus of anywhere from 1% to 9% depending on the item you choose to place.
For the two new crops, you can now plant either Shamrocks or Clover. Shamrocks cost 3 City Cash each to plant, grow instantly, and offer you 115 Goods. An expensive method at racking up the Goods, that's for sure. If you'd rather save your City Cash, you can simply plant the other new crop - Cabbage - which is available to plant for 73 coins each. You'll be able to harvest your Cabbage after 1.6 days, and will receive a whopping 447 Goods per square planted. This is an absolutely killer crop in terms of productivity, so if you have enough Goods to last you the 1.6 days until your Cabbage grows, I highly suggest taking advantage of its stats Update: Zynga has changed Cabbage to only offer 114 Goods per square grown, limiting its value greatly.
And there you have it - an absolute treasure trove of new themed items in CityVille. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to completely makeover my city for the holiday - won't you join me?

Farmers Insurance soars back to FarmVille, CityVille et al this summer
The zeppelin is back, baby. (But unfortunately not that Zeppelin.) Farmers Insurance has announced that it will soon return to FarmVille this month with the familiar "Win a Ride on the Farmers Airship" promotion. We hope this will ring in the return of the Farmers Airship to the farm and some free wither protection with it. During that time, farmers will be able to "Like" the Farmers Insurance Facebook page again for a chance to ride the real Farmers Airship. But this time, Zynga plans on taking the company ship for a tour around its stable of games.
Soon after the FarmVille promotion returns, Farmers Insurance will find its way into CityVille, Cafe World and Mafia Wars over the next four months, though the company isn't ready just yet to spill all the beans. However, what we do know is big prizes are in store for Zynga gamers, not to mention that Farmers Insurance agents nationwide will jump in on the fun through their own Facebook pages.
"Millions of Farmers Airships were placed on FarmVille farms," Marc Zeitlin, Farmers Insurance VP of e-Business, said in a statement. "FarmVille players were exposed to the Farmers brand billions of times, raising our Facebook fan base by more than 100,000 in the first week of the promotion. It was one of the most successful things we've done from a branding perspective." Now do you see why Farmers and, um, us farmers are such a good fit? It's not just the name!

CityVille: Finish your Bridge, Dam and more with discounted materials
If you've been putting off building one of the larger structures in CityVille (like the Bridge or Dam, as examples), because you didn't want to gather the required building materials from friends, or simply didn't want to pay the high prices to purchase those materials with City Cash, the team at Zynga is hoping that buy putting these items on sale (well, some of these items anyway), it might be enough to persuade you to open your wallet.
To be specific, a sale is now being held for up to 40% off building materials in the game. The materials are unfortunately limited to a specific set of buildings: the Bridge, Sailboat Hotel, Dam, Mall, Mall 2, Pirate Ship Attraction and Go Kart Attraction, and the rest of the game's many, many buildings are left unaffected. To make matters worse - between the two of us - the sale really isn't that good.
For example, let's say you wanted to finish your Pirate Ship Attraction. This one's building materials still cost 3 City Cash each. Perhaps if that were three City Cash in total for all of a particular ingredient I needed (say, two Ship's Prows or five Overhead Bars), that might be an acceptable price, but in our particular example, we're still looking at six City Cash for the Ship Prows and 15 City Cash for the Overhead Bars. Wouldn't it still be smarter (if not more time consuming) to ask friends for these items instead?
I suppose if you're looking for an easier way of completing these specific buildings, then you'll want to take advantage of this apparently limited time opportunity. Just don't feel any unneeded pressure to purchase building materials; the free way is still available, and doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Will you spend City Cash on any of these discounted building materials, or have you already completed the construction on all of these buildings? Let us know in the comments.

CityVille Governor's Run Family Goals: Everything you need to know
In your quest to become Governor in CityVille, you've had to help the farmers and the toy makers, but now it's time to look a little closer to home. Your third and final portion of Act I of this event will see you earning a family's vote in your campaign. Specifically, you're looking to impress the Stumpford family (remember them from the Family Vacation goals released back in August?). Why the Stumpfords wouldn't automatically be on your side after helping them before is anyone's guess, but here's how to earn their vote of confidence officially.
Family Matters
* Ask friends for 10 Magazine Subscriptions
* Collect from the Executive Driving Range 4 times
* Collect from Community Pool 6 times
As you might have guessed, the Magazine Subscriptions are earned via a general news post you'll post to your wall asking all of your friends to help you at once. As for the Executive Driving Range, this is the game's newest attraction that you can find the guide to building right here. Finally, the Community Pool is a Community Building that can be purchased from the store for 150,000 coins. By finishing this first goal, you'll receive a prize of 85 coins.
School of Thought
* Ask for 15 Tutors
* Upgrade Middle School to Level 3
* Harvest 70 Brussel Sprouts
The 15 Tutors, again, need to be earned via friends. As for the Middle School, you've been able to upgrade this particular Community Building since late August, but if you don't have it done already, you can check out our guide to doing just that. Finally, Brussel Sprouts are available to plant for 48 coins and are ready to harvest after eight hours. Finishing this second of three goals gives you 4,500 coins.
Exterior Decorator
* Ask friends for 20 Street Sweepers
* Remodel 6 Residences
* Unwither 24 Neighbor Crops
If you have any friends that stopped playing the game and left some crops growing (which most of us probably do), you should have no problem finding 24 individual squares to unwither. Just click on them when visiting friends' towns and you'll finish that task fast. For the residence remodeling task, this can turn into an expensive one, depending on the houses you choose to upgrade and the particular upgrades themselves, but you can see how to start the process in our guide. Finishing this final goal will complete your work with the Stumpfords (although I'm sure they'll be back in another feature in the future), and you'll receive the Mega Nail Salon business as a reward. This is a massive building that requires 410 Goods but supplies 3,050 coins each time those Goods are used.
Again, after you finish helping the Stumpfords (so long as you've also finished with the farmers and toy makers), you'll have finished the first portion of the Governor's Run event, but there's still a lot more waiting down the line. As the event continues to expand, we'll make sure to give you all of the details you need, so keep checking back with us!

CityVille Ferris Wheel Attraction: Everything you need to know
A third attraction has launched in CityVille this afternoon, being available to users level 25 and above, and this one is one of the classics: the Ferris Wheel. The Ferris Wheel base is available to purchase from the store (click on Businesses and then on the Attractions tab) for 7,500 coins.
Once you place the base, you'll need to whack it seven times to finish its frame. From there, it's a fairly standard item collection process, requiring the following ingredients:
* 4 Carriages
* 4 Light Bulbs
* 4 Cement
* 4 Turnstiles
* 4 Control Boxes
The Carriages, Light Bulbs and Control Boxes are earned through general news posts that you'll post on your wall, while the Cement and Turnstiles are earned through individual requests sent to friends.
After the Ferris Wheel has been completed, you'll be able to start it into motion. It will stay running for eight minutes at a time, and can earn anywhere from 1500 to 6000 coins per operating cycle. Of course, after it runs, you'll need to either wait a substantial amount of time for maintenance to complete automatically, or ask your friends to send you wrenches to speed up the process.
Keep in mind that building this new structure is voluntary, and it is rather large, if you're lacking a lot of extra space on your land. Still, if you're looking to retain some of that summer fun all year round, make sure to build this one! I'm sure your virtual citizens will enjoy it!
